Austin Ride

Please join us for this family-friendly 35-mile ride in the scenic north woods of New Hampshire. Out-of-state registered sleds can ride the course with a waived NH registration fee, so come and join the ride. Riders participating in Austin's Ride For CF will be treated to a fantastic ride, a great BBQ lunch provided by the Colebrook Ski-Bees, goodie bag, and a silent auction!

Come join the Wanner family who was inspired by their son, Austin, to organize this event. On February 29, 2004, Austin was born and two weeks later the doctors told them that he had tested positive for CF. Their belief that a cure will be found through research funded by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is what motivates them to organize this successful fundraiser. So get on your machine with Austin and his family to help find a cure for CF! .

What Is Cystic Fibrosis?
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. An estimated 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide) have CF.
In people with CF, a defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that: Clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections.
Obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down food and absorb vital nutrients.

In the United States About 1,000 new cases of CF are diagnosed each year.
More than 75 percent of people with CF are diagnosed by age 2.

Nearly half of the CF population is age 18 or older.

In the 1950s, few children with CF lived to attend elementary school. Since then, tremendous progress in understanding and treating CF has led to dramatic improvements in the length and quality of life for those with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond.

Important note on attendance for people with CF and their families: The health and well-being of people with cystic fibrosis is our top priority. Medical evidence shows that certain bacteria can be passed between individuals who have CF and can lead to worse symptoms and speed decline in lung function. To limit the serious risk of cross-infection between people with CF, only one person with CF may be invited to attend the indoor portion of each CF Foundation-sponsored event. For the outdoor portion of the event, people with CF should maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from each other.

Please note: People with CF and their families should be aware that individuals with CF might choose to attend Foundation events or meetings without notifying event organizers. We strongly discourage this; however, we cannot guarantee that only one person with CF will be present at any indoor Foundation event. For more information, please call your local chapter.
